Daymonilia is Proud to be Bear Ambassadors with LAV
Adamello Brenta Nature Park and LAV are collaborating on a project aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence between bears and humans.
Bears are peaceful animals that keep their distance from humans. They are shy and extremely difficult to encounter because they are instinctively wary of humans – unless our behaviours attract or alarm them, forcing them to adopt defensive, potentially aggressive behaviours.
Let’s adopt responsible behaviours towards these magnificent creatures. Food is a powerful attraction for bears, so it’s important to bring it your food back down to the valley and dispose of it in bear-proof bins.
Surprising a bear while it’s with its cubs or while it’s feeding may prompt it to try to scare off the intruder with aggressive behaviour. To avoid this situation, stay on marked trails and announce your presence with the normal noises people make while hiking: talking, coughing, whistling, stepping on leaves or breaking a branch while walking are all sounds that the bear will perceive, thanks to its keen hearing. The sounds will prompt it to move away.
Our safety depends only on us. Let’s adopt responsible behaviours! #alltogether
If you encounter a bear on your path: Try to make noise, especially in bushy and wooded areas. This will give the bear time to change course and move away. Always remember to keep your dog on a leash. This will prevent any contact between them and a bear. If you spot a bear, do not approach it, do not follow its tracks, and try to change your path. If you suddenly find yourself face to face with a bear, let it know that you are not a threat: stay calm, do not shout, and retrace your steps. If the bear has noticed your presence and is approaching you menacingly, lie down on the ground and protect your head with your backpack.
